Christmas 2012 Highlights
I hope each of you had a wonderful holiday, a very merry Christmas and are excited about the new year and what it holds! I would like to share today on Family Fridays some of the highlights of our Christmas celebration.
We woke up to a white Christmas – yes, there was between 1/2 – 1 inch of the white stuff all over the ground. Unfortunately it did not last very long. Oh, it was plenty cold but the wind started blowing and blew it right on through to New Mexico!
With our large family, there were lots of gifts, lots of excitement and lots of wrapping paper left on the floor when it was all over!
With the building of our new barn, we have a 30 X 40 concrete pad out in front of the barn under the overhang. It is the perfect place for playing street hockey.
So, this Christmas everyone received roller-blades and hockey sticks – even our 4 year old! Needless to say, they have been playing every spare moment.
December is a big month for us. Not only do we have Christmas, but we also celebrate the birth of two sons – one of them on Christmas day! Our oldest son at home turned 20 this year – it is hard to believe that 20 years ago he was born 2 1/2 months premature and weighed 3 1/2 pounds!
That about sums up our Christmas day’s celebration. I would love to hear any special traditions you have – leave a comment!
You’ve got a good looking family there!! Im glad your Christmas was a wonderful one. My oldest daughter was born the day after Christmas.. She just turned 31 which is shocking to say the least
This year, we had 3 Christmas celebrations. My daughter & her roommate Amanda had the parents over on the 23rd and we had a great dinner & good company. On the 24th, we have always gone to M’honey’s sisters house out in the country for Christmas Eve with extended family but she passed on last year so we missed a year and then her daughter decided to take up the tradition. We spent Christmas Eve with extended family out in the country and it was wonderful.. Im so thankful she decided to continue that tradition.
On Christmas morning, all of our kids, all grown up now, came home to open present and then they went to other functions for the day and came back for a later than normal Christmas dinner and an evening of relaxing and spending quality time with each other.
Good times all around & best of all was being able to spend relaxed times with all our families.
Kim, thank you for sharing your traditions and so glad you had a wonderful celebration! I love making Christmas last over several days!
Growing up we didn’t have very many presents, but Christmas morning I just vaguely remember everything being passed out, everyone opening their own stuff, and then it was over. When I married imagine my surprise when my first Christmas with the in-laws and we ate breakfast and went to church (if it was a Sunday) and got dressed, and did all the things one would do on a regular day. What do you mean you sit down as a family and open gifts in a civilized manner? But that’s what all of us grown kids did. It something we’ve now done with our family. Having 6 kids (age 6-15) that each get a sibling a gift, well, it takes awhile to open everything. My mom and brother are living with us right now and I warned them that it took 2-3 hours. One person passes out the gifts, they had it to the person that it’s from and the giver then takes it to the receiver and they sit together while it gets opened and the oohs and aahs and I love its take place. Maybe long and drawn out, but our kids can tell who gave them what. Not to mention that they love it.
How precious, Jeri! The way you open gifts is the way I grew up with – I have one sister and one person passed out gifts and we opened one at time. With us though, it is more chaotic but really a lot of fun!
How lovely!!! We have a big family, too. I’m expecting number 8. I love seeing big families celebrating holidays and birthdays together! It really is so much fun! Blessings just overflowing!
Thanks for visiting our blog and for inviting us over to yours. You have a beautiful family and your blog is wonderful!
Hello! I found your lovely blog tonight and have so enjoyed browsing around. The chocolate covered bananas look so yummy! I want to try those out SOON 🙂
What a fun family Christmas. I love that you all play together. That’s is rare! We also have 10 children with the oldest two out of the home already and two grand dumplings that come by and visit us. Life is full, crowded and busy but what a wonderful way to have my hands and heart filled to overflowing 🙂
Oh and we have five boys and five girls. And can you believe people actually ask us if we planned it that way?! haha!
